What is the best Visa for me?

Entry to Australia is based on a system of points (or a score) for each eligibility criteria that your application is able to meet. Points or your score is based primarily on the visa type you apply for, your qualifications, health check, police and family check and English language skills.

Information on Australian visa types and application processes is available from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Current Policy Environment

The new priority processing for Visa’s in Australia gives priority to applications with Employer sponsorship.

There is also increased scope for State and Territory Government sponsorship to meet critical skill shortages in their jurisdiction.

What are some of the visas better suited to regional areas?

  • Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS)
Given these new policy directions, the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) is now being processed faster than ever before and if all documentation is in place the visa can be granted within 48 hours. This visa is a permanent residency, employer sponsored visa and only available in regional areas. If you are skilled in one of the skill shortage areas, this visa is available to employers to bring you into the country. The RSMS is available across the State of Victoria (excludes Metropolitan Melbourne). Other conditions apply.
  • Temporary Long Stay Visa - Subclass 457
This is the most commonly used program for employers to sponsor overseas workers to work in Australia on a temporary basis. There are also special arrangements for employers in regional areas across Australia.
  • State Sponsored Visas
On the State Government’s website www.LiveInVictoria.vic.gov.au are state sponsored visas that are able to be applied for if you have skills and qualifications that match the skills posted on this site. The processing times for these visas currently are 12-15 months minimum.

For more information about these visas please contact us at the Skilled Migration Project.
