Health Registration Fees

The cost of Public Health and Wellbeing registration varies according to the type and size of operation.

A Public Health and Wellbeing Registration includes businesses such as:

  • Hairdressers
  • Beauty premises
  • Tattooists
  • Body piercing
  • Accommodation operations such as B & Bs, hotels, motels, residential accommodation and rooming houses.

Proposal fee

When the Proposal to Register is lodged the fee should be paid.

This fee is $245 - this is the 2020-2021 fee level and is subject to change.

Initial registration

When the Proposal to Register has been assessed and approved by the Health Officer, the initial registration fee will be payable.

This initial fee is to be paid before you start trading and the amount will depend on the level of risk.

Type of registration Description Fee
Personal Treatment Hairdresser and low risk health operation – such as make up $330 – one off fee
Personal Treatment Higher risk Beauty operations such as waxing, eye brow and nails, ear piercing   $330  annual fee
Accommodation Motel, hotel, rooming house, residential accommodation $306 - $475 annual fee

Renewal fees

The annual health registration fees are $330 - $475.

These are the 2020-2021 fee level and is subject to change.

Performance fees

Additional fees may be applied when a Health assessment does not rate an A, when inspected by the Health Officer.

These are called Performance fees and are added to the annual renewal fees when issued for the following year. The amount for the 2020-2021 financial year is $77.

Existing business

If you are taking over an existing business we recommend you visit the Business Victoria website and research running a business.

You will then be able to apply to Transfer the current Health and Well Being Act Registration.

The fees to transfer a health business will vary and depend on the classification and size of the business.

Transfer fee for the 2020-2021 financial year is $199.
