Women in Street Art program calls for submissions

Wednesday, 4 June 2025

The City of Greater Geelong is calling for Expressions of Interest from street artists across Victoria to participate in the Women in Street Art (WiSA) program.

The WiSA program aims to foster, support and build a collection of purposeful street art by women from a diverse range of backgrounds. The program focuses on public art commissions by artists that are women as well as representing women in the artworks themselves.

Through the creation of wall-based street art installations across Geelong’s CBD, the program will amplify the contributions of women in public art while also addressing broader societal discussions around gendered representation.

Submissions must include artwork examples representing the artist’s original work and reflect artistic excellence, innovation and originality.

Expressions of Interest close 5 pm Monday 23 June, with the successful artist’s work scheduled for installation in September 2025.

Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

This program aligns with the City’s public art program which aims to reflect the stories of diverse and under-represented groups within our city.

The WiSA program builds on the success of the Women’s Street Art Commission Project the City ran in 2022.

This program supports the Victorian Government’s broader initiative to address gender equality in public art.

Councillor Emma Sinclair

This opportunity is available to artists across a diverse range of wall-based media.

This program will help Geelong be known as a place that supports women in public art.

We look forward to seeing the exciting and powerful works that will emerge through this program.
