Malop Street Lab

A new funky pop up urban space was installed in Central Geelong over the summer - did you catch it?!

Featuring colourful street furniture and more greenery, the Malop Street Lab made the CBD more inviting and attractive for people to enjoy over the warmer months.

The Malop Street Lab was located in Malop Street, between Moorabool and Yarra Streets.  Temporary changes included additional seating, street trees in pots, a new green median, improved bike paths and pocket parks and al fresco areas along the street.

The temporary installation demonstrated how the street could look in the future - delivering an example of how a ‘City in a Park’ could be implemented.

The project is part of a global movement called tactical urbanism, with projects occurring from New York to London, San Francisco, Rio Di Janeiro and Berlin.  CoDesign oversaw the project on behalf of the City of Greater Geelong.
