Heavy vehicle restrictions trial

The Heavy Vehicle Restrictions trial is targeted at testing the impacts of moving freight traffic travelling through key streets of the CBD to alternate routes.

The Central Geelong Transportation Links Study identified that to establish a road hierarchy and determine future east-west heavy vehicle routes through Central Geelong, a trial should be undertaken.

The first stage of the trial involved restricting heavy vehicle movements in Mercer and Malop Streets.

The second stage of the trial sought the introduction of additional restrictions in Ryrie Street. VicRoads has commissioned an evaluation of the project, which is currently underway.

The project relates to delivery of two priority actions:

  1. Connecting people and places and

  2. City loop bus and public transport
