Strategic Planning

Our Planning Strategy Unit have responsibility for the preparation of strategic land use plans, development guidelines and planning policies.

Our strategic plans and visions are implemented through the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.

We prepare and review planning policies, structure plans, strategies, master plans, urban growth plans, frameworks and design guidelines.

Strategic planning ensures the City of Greater Geelong:
  • Plans for future growth
  • Maintains its environmental, heritage and cultural values
  • Identifies issues facing townships including community aspirations and needs
  • Articulates the preferred future directions for townships
  • Identifies appropriate planning controls to protect and enhance townships


Community Participation and Feedback

The community has an opportunity to participate and comment on the work carried out by Planning Strategy.

This is done informally at the draft stage and formally at the planning scheme amendment stage, when the policy/document is introduced into the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.
