The city is calling on dog owners to help keep the region’s parks, beaches and footpaths clean this summer by picking up after their dogs.
Mayor Cr John Mitchell said dog poo left on paths and in parks took away from the natural beauty of the region’s parks and gardens.
“We are lucky to have so many great parks, beaches and walking tracks all around the region for pet owners to take their best friend out for a stroll,” he said.
“We take a lot of pride in our natural areas and we encourage residents to help us keep these places beautiful by disposing of their rubbish thoughtfully.”
“This includes cleaning up after your pet.”
“By picking up dog poo and throwing it in the nearest rubbish bin you are helping to protect the environment and ensuring walking trails and parks can be enjoyed by everyone.”
Leaving dog poo can incur a penalty of up to $244. Dog owners can avoid getting a fine and help protect the environment by taking a plastic bag when going for walks.
“Visit one of our customer service centres to pick up a free doggie pak (a plastic bag holder that you can clip to your leash) so you are always prepared,” said the Mayor.
