How rates are calculated

We, like many other Councils, have chosen the Capital Improved Value (CIV) for the calculation of rates. The date of valuation is assessed as at 1 July 2016.

We, like many other councils, has chosen the Capital Improved Value (CIV) for the calculation of rates. The CIV of your property is determined by independent valuers, and is revalued every two years.

To calculate your rates, we take the revalued CIV of your property, and use the ‘rate in the dollar’ of the relevant rating differential.

For example, the calculation for a residential property worth $400,322 would be:

Capital Improved Value  $400,322
Rate in dollar
0.002739
$400,130 x 0.002739 = $1,096.48
Add Municipal Charge   $96.65
Add Waste Service Charge         $270.50
Total rates and charges
$1,463.63

For details of your property's valuation and how your rates are calculated please refer to the rate notice.
