Work begins on multi-purpose synthetic pitch at the Leisuretime Centre

Monday, 11 September 2017

Construction is underway on the new $2 million multi-purpose synthetic pitch at the Leisuretime Centre in Corio.

The facility will cater for the high growth in the popularity of soccer and other sports in Geelong’s northern suburbs.

We have committed $1.4 million to the project and the remaining $600,000 has been provided by the Victorian State Government through a major facility grant.

The regional scale facility will serve soccer clubs for training and overflow competition when required, support regional programs and pathways and increase local participation opportunities for emerging sports and activities.

The pitch will be floodlit and primarily designed for soccer, with the versatility to service other sports such as touch football, ultimate Frisbee and AFL 9s.

The project has been designed to complement and work in harmony with the surrounding parkland.

The G21 region has the fastest growing soccer participation in the state and the majority of this growth has occurred in Geelong’s north.

This exciting project will help meet and encourage this sporting growth and provide sporting opportunities for thousands of people into the future.
