Newtown and Chilwell launch upgraded clubrooms

Thursday, 29 April 2010 10:22 AM Media Releases

Last night Newtown and Chilwell Football and Netball Club members launched their new clubrooms after a recent refurbishment provided by the City of Greater Geelong.

The $650,000 upgrade included a complete makeover to the club’s social rooms, changerooms and kitchen.

Improvements to the kitchen and social rooms include a building extension complete with new feature fire places. The club change rooms were remodeled incorporating new shower and toilet facilities.

The refurbishment also included some outdoor improvements, including asphalting around the front of the building and relocation of a light pole used for evening training sessions.

Kildare Ward Cr Stretch Kontelj said the upgraded facilities have been a long time coming but the wait has been worthwhile as the facilities are a benchmark for future clubroom developments in the region.

“The new facility not only looks great but it is more functional and gives the club the opportunity to generate additional sources of income from conferences and meetings.”

“This upgrade will make a big difference for both members and supporters – they will be proud to call this place home,” he said.

Elderslie Reserve also has a new irrigation system, which was installed for the Geelong Cats’ preseason training while Skilled Stadium’s ground was redeveloped.

“The facility will also offer a fully equipped gymnasium which includes equipment donated by the Geelong Football Club as a token of appreciation to Newtown Chilwell Football Club for allowing them to use the ground and facilities for preseason training while Skilled Stadium’s oval was redeveloped over the summer,” said Cr Kontelj.
