New change rooms for St Mary’s Football Netball Club launched

Thursday, 29 April 2010 10:24 AM Media Releases

St Mary’s Football Netball Club has kicked off the season with new change rooms.

Kildare Ward Cr Stretch Kontelj, players, officials and club stalwarts officially launched the $630,000 redevelopment tonight.

Cr Kontelj said all of the sports change rooms had been completely refurbished.

“There’s new change rooms for the netballers, footballers and umpires, including separate change rooms for female umpires. Plus there’s now state-of-the-art first aid facilities,” he said.

“It’s a drastic transformation from the old rooms, which were rundown with showers that regularly went cold,”

“Everything looks fantastic. It’s made a huge difference and will cater for current and future members.”

“This is a great example of a council and club partnership project. The redevelopment was managed by St Mary’s and they’ve done a terrific job.”

“I’m a strong advocate for participation in sport so it’s vital that we have modern facilities in place for our local sports clubs,” Cr Kontelj said.

The redevelopment was jointly funded by the City of Greater Geelong ($400,000), the Federal Government ($30,500) and St Mary’s who contributed the remainder with the support of local businesses.

Works will soon get underway to relocate the Past Players’ Stand (formerly located at Skilled Stadium) to St Mary’s ground. The stand will increase seating capacity and provide another sheltered spectator area.
