East Geelong Football and Netball Club will launch its new-look clubrooms at 12pm today (Saturday 25 July).
The recently completed $400,000 redevelopment includes a new kitchen and a new raised viewing platform with glassed in area.
The redevelopment was funded by the City of Greater Geelong, who provided $300,000, and the GDFL, which contributed $100,000.
Mayor Cr John Mitchell will officially open the new clubrooms at Richmond Oval just in time for the game between neighbouring clubs and long-time rivals East Geelong and Thomson.
“It’s always a highly anticipated match; the clubs refer to it as ‘the battle of the roundabouts’.”
Cr Mitchell, who holds the Sport and Recreation portfolio, said the redevelopment of the East Geelong clubrooms would provide great benefits for the club.
“The clubrooms have been completely renovated and extended; it’s a huge improvement,” he said.
“Plus the new indoor viewing area will get plenty of use by the loyal club supporters who come along every game day, even when it’s pouring rain.”
