Volunteer - Geelong Otway Tourism

Position description for the Volunteer Visitor Information Centre Officer.

Position Objectives

Provide excellence in customer service to visitors to the Geelong Otway Tourism Visitor Information Centres, by issuing accurate, current and up to date visitor information on the Geelong Otway Region, in a professional and friendly manner in person and over the telephone.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Staff the Visitor Information Centres.
  2. Participate in a minimum of two organised familiarisation tours per year.
  3. Attend staff training and meetings as organised by the Visitor Information Centres Coordinator.
  4. Attend to telephone and in-person enquiries in a professional manner.
  5. Assist in staffing information stands at major events when available.
  6. Refer non-visitor enquiries to the Visitor Information Centres Coordinator.
  7. Complete accurate and detailed information on visitor survey forms as requested.
  8. Adhere to GOT Volunteer Procedures and the GOT Volunteer Code of Conduct (PDF - 16KB).

 

Key Selection Criteria

  1. 1. An interest in and up to date knowledge of Geelong Otway Tourism events, members and attractions.
  2. Good communication and customer liaison skills in order to provide customer service:
    • to visitors to the centres, and
    • over the telephone
  3. Good written and oral communication skills.
  4. To be able to assist when requested to safely carry out all duties and responsibilities of the role. (Including safely unloading of boxes of brochures and other material delivered to the centres)

 

Rostering

  • Visitor Information Centres and stands at major events must be staffed by Geelong Otway Tourism registered volunteers only.
  • Volunteers should be available to staff any of the four Visitor Information Centres for a minimum of four hours per week.
  • The shifts are a combination of:
    • Monday to Sunday 9.00am to 1.00pm or 1.00pm to 5.00pm, at the Geelong and Geelong and Great Ocean Road Visitor Information Centre.
    • Market Square booth 9.00am to 1.00pm or 1.00pm to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday.
    • Waterfront booth 10.00am to 1.00pm or 1.00pm to 4.00pm Monday to Sunday.

Notes

  • Volunteers may be required to undergo a Police Check
  • Volunteers may be requested to undertake a medical
  • Volunteers may be required to undergo Working with Children Check
