Prepare Act Survive Alert Messages

Fire agencies will provide you with as much information as possible when there is a fire.

Three levels of messages, each increasing in their importance, will be used this fire season in Victoria. They will alert you to the danger so that you can take action.

  1. Advice Message

An Advice message means a fire has started. There is no immediate danger. You should look and listen for information to keep you up to date with developments.

An advice message will include information about fires that are currently posing no threat to life and property. This may be because the fire is small and controllable or the fire is burning in a remote area away from people and property.

  2. Watch and Act Message

This message means a fire is approaching you conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect yourself and your family. Your life may come under threat.

  3.
  4. Emergency Warning Message

This is the highest level of message to tell you of impending danger. It means you are in danger and need to take action immediately. You will be affected by fire. It may be preceded with a load emergency warning signal to get your attention. The severity of the fire and time until impact will influence what you do.

The information that you will receive will relate to the size of the fire, how fast it is moving, where it is and where it is heading.
