Salvia Collection

Salvias are wonderful flowering plants from many countries around the world.  They are ideal for Australian gardens.

SalviaThe Salvia collection at the Geelong Botanic Gardens is extensive.  It is registered with the Garden Plant Conservation Association of Australia Inc.

Salvias are part of the mint family and their natural distribution inlcudes temperate and sub-tropical regions of the world. About half of all Salvia species come from South America and they grow from coastal to mountain areas making them adaptable to many growing conditions.

Salvia plantings at the Geelong Botanic Gardens represent species from the world and those bred for garden cultivation for their showy flowers. Plantings include the very drought tolerant species from South Africa showcased in the dry 21st Century Garden.

Salvias are easy to grow in the home garden and are often available for sale from the Friends Nursery.
