Spills
The spills that we deal with at the City of Greater Geelong are mainly on the roads and road sides and are from passing vehicles. We can also be called on by police to clear oil from the road surface after a car accident.
Below is a list of vehicle spills that happen regularly, the reason these spills are so common, it’s either the unstable nature of the cargo, or the frequency with which they are hauled around.
One of the main concerns is that the material can enter the drainage system which runs into the water ways.
- Garbage

- Dirt
- Concrete
- Diesel Fuel
- Oil
Control Measures:
Over the years we have installed a number of Litter Baskets & Gross Pollutant Traps which contain the pollution and stop it entering our water ways.
Oil spills on the road can be very dangerous and needs to be removed immediately. These spills are cleaned by absorbing the oil with a coconut fibre.
Small spills that enter our water ways can be contained using a long floatable pollutant sock and absorbent blocks.
