Parking signs indicate the time limit and if it is a metered/ticketed area.


Ticketed Areas

You are only entitled to stay in your parking bay for the allotted time on the sign. The following scenarios will help you to understand the parking rules and why infringements may be issued:
  • If you park your car in a ticketed area and don't put in the full amount for the signed area, you can come back and top up to the maximum time allowed in that parking area by purchasing another ticket and placing it beside your first ticket.
  • If you have already paid for and parked in a ticketed area for the maximum time on the signage, you must move your car to a different area when that time is expired. If you don't move your car, or if you purchase another ticket and stay longer than the time limit on the sign, you may receive a parking infringement for staying for a 'period longer than fixed'.

Simple Points to Remember

Don't pull in to a ticketed parking bay if you don't have change - if you try to get change from the shop this may take five or six minutes and you may receive a parking infringement in this time.

The onus is on you - the driver - to place money in the ticket machine as soon as the car is parked.

The infringement for staying for a 'period longer than fixed' also includes parking near your place of work without moving your car from the parking bay - topping up the ticket machine every few hours after the limit has been reached is overstaying your time and you may receive an infringement.
