Message from the Mayor
Wednesday, 13 February 2013
February marks four months since I was elected to the position of Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong. Since the election, I have been truly humbled by the expressions of support I have received in my new role and continue to be impressed by the passion the people of Greater Geelong have for their community.
I can assure you that Councillors and I have been working in the last few months, engaged in the necessary long term planning for our four year term.
One thing that I have said from the outset is that the journey to achieving sustainable change will be a marathon not a sprint.
Achieving real change requires time and more importantly meaningful consultation and collaboration. There is a lot to do but it has to be done properly with as much thought as possible.
Abraham Lincoln said this:
Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend four hours sharpening the axe.
I am very encouraged by the strength of community spirit that exists in Greater Geelong in areas as diverse as local sport, youth, community services and
I believe there is a great opportunity to harness the energy, expertise and enthusiasm that already exists within our community and by working together we will achieve mostly positive things for our community.
2013 presents Greater Geelong with many opportunities and challenges. I am looking forward to working with the community to help our fantastic region achieve its potential in the years ahead.
Cr Keith Fagg
