In the weeks leading up to Flamefest, students at Whittington Primary School have been busily creating papier mache lanterns to carry in formation in the spectacular twilight parade.
Mayor Cr John Mitchell said Flamefest is now in its fourth year and is increasingly popular with residents of Whittington and surrounding areas.
“Flamefest is a community event that is much anticipated by local kids and their families,” said Cr Mitchell.
“They really look forward to all the free kids’ activities, live music and food.”
“The lantern parade is a magical sight. Children move through the twilight in choreographed formation with their lanterns, and giant puppets tell a story of Whittington. The fireworks finale is absolutely spectacular – don’t miss it,” said Cr Mitchell.
“There is huge community involvement in the planning and staging of the festival – and I’m talking about people of all ages – which results in a night that people love to be a part of,” said Cr Mitchell.
The initial inspiration for Flamefest came from a handful of residents who wanted to help build bridges between neighbours in Whittington, to show multicultural pride and create a fun and affordable day for families.
