From Saturday 6th February 2010, the Central Geelong NightBus will offer a new service to Drysdale/Clifton Springs to help people from these areas get home safely.
Departing Central Geelong at 4.00am every Saturday night (Sunday mornings), the Drysdale/Clifton Springs service will cost $5 per person.
The service is replacing the current 4.00am service to Newtown/Geelong West/Manifold Heights/Herne Hill.
Although the 4.00am service to Newtown/Geelong West/Manifold Heights/Herne Hill will no longer be available, the 2.30am service to these destinations will continue to operate.
Over 1600 people have used the NightBus to get home after a night out in Central Geelong to date however there’s still plenty of room for more people to use the service.
The NightBus will continue to operate every Saturday night (Sunday mornings) and on special event nights from 1.30am – 4.00am on a trial basis until 31st March 2010.
City of Greater Geelong Cr Jan Farrell, who sits on the Geelong Safety Committee said the replacement of the 4.00am Newtown/Geelong West/Manifold Heights/Herne Hill service was warranted due to its low passenger numbers.
Cr Farrell was recently appointed the new portfolio of Community Safety, highlighting Council’s commitment to making Geelong a safe place for all community members.
“We have introduced the Drysdale and Clifton Springs service in response to passenger requests, as well as feedback from the community about the need for transport to the Drysdale/Clifton Springs area,” she said.
“This new NightBus service will also complement the taxi service by reducing taxi trips to outer-lying areas and allowing them to focus on shorter, more frequent trips in and around the Geelong suburbs.”
You can catch the NightBus from Moorabool Street (between Malop and Little Malop Street), near the Safe Taxi Rank to over 20 suburbs around Geelong, Bellarine and the Surfcoast. Security personnel will be on board at all times.
Tickets can be purchased as you board the NightBus or beforehand at a range of locations around Geelong, including City of Greater Geelong Customer Service Centres. Tickets are $5 per person and multi-ride tickets are also available for $25.
The Central Geelong NightBus is an initiative of the City of Greater Geelong with support from the Commonwealth Attorney - General’s Department, Central Geelong Marketing, TAC, KROCK and the Geelong Advertiser.
