PROJECT OBJECTIVES

At the outset of the project, City of Greater Geelong identified change as the key issue facing the Geelong region. Connecting Identities is designed to create links within a local government organisation as well as across a diverse municipality facing the challenge of rapid change.

Connecting Identities

The key objectives for Connecting Identities are:

  • To articulate an authentic sense of place and identity, both for the benefit of local communities themselves and for the outside world through artistic processes and techniques.
  • To respond to the rapid, ongoing transformation of places and communities across the greater Geelong municipality.
  • To develop a stronger sense of connectedness between Council departments and across the larger municipality.
  • To develop and present powerful and evocative expressions of local culture that can inform and influence a broad range of planning and development initiatives across the municipality.
  • To initiate the project in 4-5 local communities that represented the diverse nature of the municipality of Geelong.

By the end of this project it is anticipated that participating City of Greater Geelong communities will:

  • Have increased opportunities to express their understanding and value of City of Greater Geelong’s past and present.
  • Find new ways to respond to the ongoing issues relating to the rapid change happening within Geelong as a region.
