The Youthcan Van is designed to be a warm friendly environment in which young people can access planned and structured activities.
The facilities on board the van include:
- Xbox
- Wide screen TV
- Laptops
- Electric guitars
- Board games
- Outdoor games
- Art materials
The Youthcan Van is outfitted with basic kitchen facilities and a meeting area. These facilities allow us to provide low or no cost social and recreational activities to the young people of the City of Greater Geelong, as well as providing a safe mobile environment for connection to local youth workers. The Youthcan Van also provides information on a range of social, health, legal and youth issues.
A team of youth workers comes with the bus and leads all sessions. Though activities are designed to promote participation and encourage the young people to take responsibility for their own learning and development.
The Youthcan van is warmed and cooled by an air-conditioner and there is a large canvas awning that can be used to provide shade and more covered space. A sound system completes the Youthcan Van as an excellent community resource.
Over the past few years of operation, the Youthcan Van has visited many events such as Gala Day, Spudfest and SKAART.
