Family violence covers a broad range of controlling behaviours. They are commonly of a physical, sexual and/or psychological nature.
Behaviour may include verbal abuse, threats, harassment and intimidation. Controlling behaviour may include limiting access to friends, relatives and/or finances.
VicHealth data shows that intimate partner violence is the most common cause of death and disability for Victorian women aged 15-44 years.
57 per cent of women will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
The City of Greater Geelong has taken a stand against family violence. Actions include:
Family Violence Accord
A regional partnership to raise awareness, gather support and inspire people to act to reduce violence against women.
White Ribbon Day
25 November marks the international day for the elimination of violence against women. Local events are held during a month of action.
Family Violence workplace clause
The City of Greater Geelong's last Enterprise Agreement included a clause to cover family violence against employees.
