The Geelong Rangers Soccer Club are glad to be back on their home ground this season, with their new change rooms now complete.
The upgraded facilities include six unisex change rooms, a trainers/first-aid room, 2 x referees change rooms, store rooms and improved public amenities.
The State Government contributed $100,000 to the $400,000 project through the 2011 Strengthening the World Game program. The balance of the costs was provided over the past three years through Council’s ward priority funding.
Cowie Ward Councillor Eddy Kontelj said the building renovation was much needed to better accommodate female and junior sport at the reserve.
“While the facilities will be primarily used by the Geelong Rangers Soccer Club, the Bell Post Hill Sporting Club Junior football program will also benefit from these works,” he said.
“I am pleased that we have been able to deliver these important works as I know they will benefit the soccer club as well as the wider local community.”
“As with all our projects, the works at Myers Reserve have been designed with environmental sustainability in mind from the very beginning.”
“A rainwater harvesting tank has been installed, and the toilets will reuse this water for flushing. Plus we have installed energy saving LED exit lights.”
“It has been a relatively lengthy process from the initial plans to the final construction, but this is a fantastic result and I’m happy to see the club and community groups now able to use this facility to it’s fullest extent,” said Cr Kontelj.
