Food Safety Plan

All food businesses in Victoria, except for those selling low risk, packaged food, must have a Food Safety Plan.

Proprietors of food businesses must lodge an independent Food Safety Plan, or Department of Human Services approved template, with the City of Greater Geelong.

The Food Safety Plan template can be obtained by any of the following means:

Why we do this

Before a new food premises opens or when a food premises transfers ownership, a new Food Safety Plan must be lodged with the City prior to opening.

What you can expect

If a proprietor lodges an independent Food Safety Plan, the program and business must be audited by a third party and is also subject to routine compliance assessments by Council.

For those businesses with a Department of Human Services Template, routine assessments will be carried out by Council to ensure that the Food Safety Plan is being appropriately implemented.
