Community groups receive $241,000 through Councillor Community Grants program

City of Greater Geelong Councillor Jan Farrell said from April to June this year $76, 022 was provided to 44 community groups through the Councillor Community Grants Program.

“This brings the total for the 07/08 financial year to $241,062, which was shared among 128 community groups,” she said.

“To all the groups that received funding, congratulations and thanks for putting in the time and effort to organise activities that benefit our community.”

“This financial year will see another $240,000 invested in community-run events and activities so I encourage local not-for-profit groups to find out how the Councillor Community Grants Program can assist them.”

Cr Farrell, who holds the Governance portfolio, made the comments on Tuesday night as Council noted allocations under the Councillor Community Grants Program during the period April to June 2008.

Some of the not-for-profit groups and organisations that received a Councillor Community Grant during this period include:
• Ocean Grove RSL - $2,977
• St Leonards Progress Association - $5,000
• East Geelong Primary School - $2,312
• Barwon Heads Community Arts Garden - $1,500
• Newcomb and District Cricket Club - $2,500
• North Shore Primary School - $4,150
• Croatian Cultural Association - $3,000
• Highton Preschool - $918
• Newtown Chilwell Football Club - $2,500
• Belmont Primary School - $2,000
• Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association - $1,966
• Family Violence Focus Group - $2,000
• Geelong Woodcrafters Guild - $1,500
• South Barwon Athletics Club - $1,500
