The GreenHouse Project – a partnership project between the City of Greater Geelong, Sustainability Victoria and Energy Mad is about to get underway.

Cr John Doull who holds the Portfolio of Environment & Sustainability explained that The GreenHouse Project targets suburbs using higher levels of energy and water.

“If your suburb has been identified as using higher levels of energy and water, you will receive a letter in your mailbox inviting you to register with the GreenHouse Project.

Eligible households may be entitled to free Ecobulbs valued up to $120 and two water saving showerheads.”

“Just by installing Ecobulbs throughout your home, you can save up to $2,300 a year on your power bills.”

A further two hundred high consuming households will be offered an in-home sustainability assessment carried out by Energy Mad assessors. They will look at where your energy is going, how savings could be made and prepare an individualised action plan for your home.

Cr Doull said the City of Greater Geelong is pleased to be one of the three Victorian councils involved in this pilot project.

“We’re working hard to reach our target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2011. We’re doing this through a wide range of sustainability actions across all our operations and workplaces.”

“To be able to help residents reduce their everyday environmental impacts is a plus for everyone,” said Cr Doull.
