RESIDENCE OF DRIVER
This section examines alcohol-related serious road injury (SRI) by the residence of the driver, that is, the LGA in which the driver resides.
Table 46 provides rates for alcohol-related serious road injury for drivers according to their LGA of residence for the Barwon South Western region, PCPs, constituent LGAs and Victoria.
This table shows:
· There was a lower rate of alcohol-related serious road injury for drivers residing in the Barwon South Western region, compared with the rate for the whole state.
· The rates of alcohol-related serious road injury for drivers residing in the South West PCP and the Southern Grampians-Glenelg PCP were higher, compared with Barwon PCP.
· Rates for PCPs, region and state were trending lower from 2002-03 to 2004-05, except for South West PCP, where the rate increased by 66 per cent.
Table 47 shows the age distribution of drivers residing in Barwon South Western region, PCPs, the city of Greater Geelong and Victoria, sustaining an alcohol-related serious road injury.
This table shows:
· Around 60 per cent of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury were less than 35 years in Barwon PCP, the region and the state.
· The age distribution of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury was similar for Barwon South Western region and the state of Victoria.
· A higher proportion of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury were aged 35 years and over for the South West PCP, when compared with Barwon PCP, the region and the state.
Table 48 shows the sex distribution of drivers residing in Barwon South Western region, PCPs, the city of Greater Geelong and Victoria, sustaining an alcohol-related serious road injury.
This table shows:
· Over 70 per cent of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury were male in most PCPs, the region and the state.
· A slightly higher proportion of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury were male for the region, compared with the state.
· A much greater proportion of drivers with an alcohol-related serious road injury residing in Southern Grampians-Glenelg PCP were female, compared with all other areas shown.
