Kinder Upgrades

We are going through a period of upgrading and extending a number of our kinders to modernise them, meet high levels of growth and increase capacity when the Federal Government’s new policy of 15 hours a week kinder for all four-year-olds comes into effect.

Upgrade works include:

Allanvale Preschool, Leopold
An extension has doubled the number of places from 50 to 100 to help meet high demand in Leopold.

Greenville Kinder, Grovedale
Construction has started to extend the playroom and build new toilets.

Lara Lake Kinder
An extension has provided much-needed extra space for kinder and community use.

Ocean Grove Preschool
Work has finished on a new kinder room that boosts capacity by 50 places.

Portarlington Preschool
A new community space and playground hosts expanded kinder programs, toy library, play groups, mothers’ groups as well as community meetings.

New kinders

One of our bigger projects is the development of a new $9.5 million integrated children’s centre in Ocean Grove. This is the future of early childhood services – a hub where childcare, kinder, maternal and child health, play group and early intervention services are housed under the one roof. Effectively a one-stop shop where families can get the support they need.

A similar project planned for Leopold has a $15.7 million budget and will include an integrated children’s centre within the new community hub.

In Grovedale, preliminary planning is underway for a similar centre.

A section of the Village Park in Barwon Heads has been identified as the preferred site for a new kinder that will also house several other early childhood services.

New maternal and child health centre

A new maternal and child health centre is open at Reynolds Road in Belmont – next to the tenpin bowling centre.
