Allure Japan
Visit art@wintergarden during May and immerse yourself in echoes of Japan. With two different art forms exhibiting in harmony to inspire a visual and emotional response to this culture.
Noel Broadway paintings and drawings display extraordinary attention to detail executed with precision and passion.
Christopher James, accomplished Ikebana practitioner and teacher, along with some dedicated students present the beauty of Sogetsu Ikebana floral art.
An intriguingly diverse country, Japan, - rich in culture and history paralleled with its own interpretation of modern western influences. Having made a number of trips to Japan, Noel Broadway returned each time with a strong motivation to absorb aspects and images of Japan into his work. The inspiration derived from these visits has prompted an exploration of various facets of Japanese life and art. Such areas as the wonderful family crest designs, temple sculpture, the repetition of shape in Katagami paper stencil work and the use of colour, pattern and limited depth of the superb Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, have all contributed to these new works.
In order to compliment the exquisite art works of Noel Broadway, art@wintergarden will showcase Sogetsu Ikebana display, the Japanese art form that uses botanical material to create a three dimensional work.
In 2011 Christopher James spent three months studying at the headquarters of the Sogetsu School in Tokyo as the most recent recipient of the Norman and Mary Sparnon Endowment Scholarship, a great honour. He has studied Sogetsu Ikebana continuously since 2001 and currently holds a First Grade Somu Teachers Certificate guiding Geelong students for the past six years.
Ikebana is said to be constructed rather than arranged and is characterised by asymmetrical balance through elements of line, mass and space. This is important because it creates a sense of movement and vibrancy engaging the viewer.

Why Some Birds Sing And Some Do Not...
WhySomeBridsSingandSomeDoNot..
|
There are birds that laugh, birds that talk, birds that are quiet and there are birds that listen and wait. The most beautiful birds are the ones that roam because wandering inspires hope. “Why some birds sing and some do not” is the recent collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures by Mirjana Margetic inspired by artists with disabilities.
This artwork is questioning and representing that influence on her art practices and processes, revealing the possibility to invert power relations. Instinct and imagination become the tools for negotiation where the silent connections are built. Mirjana Margetic is the one of art support workers at the gallery.
YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO THE CLOSING OF THE EXHIBITION. DRINKS AND NIBBLES WITH THE ARTIST ON SATURDAY, 26 MAY @ 2.00 -4.00 PM
