Census Data
Every five years, the Australian Bureau of Statistics undertakes a census of the Australian community known as the Census of Population and Housing.
Tuesday 9 August 2011 was Census night.
The Census of Population and Housing is a compulsory census carried out by the Australian Bureau of Statistics every five years.
Census Data
A range of information is collected on individuals and households. This information underpins decisions and planning for a range of activities including:
- Community and social services (such as schools and child care)
- Major infrastructure
- Housing demands
- Emergency services
- Labour force requirements
- Services for special interest groups in the Australian population.
The results of the Census inform many of the services provided by the City of Greater Geelong.
Census Collection
Census collectors commenced distributing forms to all households and individuals on Friday 29 July 2011,operating across Geelong over a two week period.
