At tonight’s meeting City of Greater Geelong Council voted to retain the existing planning controls that apply to the area of land south of the Armstrong Creek Growth Boundary.
Council officers have reviewed the planning controls, policies and strategies in relation to the Mt Duneed area (bound by Whites Road, Ghazeepore Road, Mt Duneed Road and Barwon Heads Road).
Planning Portfolio Councillor Andrew Katos said a thorough analysis of land use and policies applicable to this area had been undertaken.
“We are aiming for the best possible land use planning for our municipality, said Cr Katos, “and this means keeping an eye on the long term future.”
“Through the extensive work that has been done in developing the Armstrong Creek Urban Growth Plan, the recent review of the MSS and the implementation of the Rural Land Use Strategy we know people do not want ad hoc development of our rural areas.”
“The rationale for maintaining the Mt Duneed area as Farming Zone is to maintain an attractive green wedge on the southerly approach to Geelong, safeguard the existing character of Mt Duneed and provide for ongoing productive use of the land” said Cr Katos.
“To guard against ad hoc development we need to be clear about creating a permanent, natural boundary to the Armstrong Creek area”, said Cr Katos.
