It is close to Geelong and a short drive from bay and surf beaches.

History
The locality was once known as West Moolap but became Newcomb in 1956, named after pioneer pastoralist Caroline Newcomb. With companion Anne Drysdale, Caroline Newcomb established major pastoral runs around Breakwater and on the Bellarine Peninsula. Their efforts earned them the title 'The Lady Squatters'. Newcomb underwent rapid residential growth during the early 1960s when the Alcoa aluminium smelter was established at nearby Point Henry. Many hundreds of houses were built specifically to cater for smelter workers and their families.
