Location
Manifold Heights is a compact suburb between Geelong West and Herne Hill, just over 2km west-north-west of Geelong city. It is bounded by Shannon Avenue, Church and Aberdeen streets, and Minerva Road.
Description
Manifold Heights is a respected and sought-after address with many large and opulent hillside houses. These lie on tree-lined streets that radiate eastwards from the Peter Lowe reserve which features an oval and a children's playground. The same streets are also a focus for community venues including churches, an Islamic mosque, a primary school and the Manifold tennis club. Manifold Heights is just 5 minutes from Geelong city and 50 minutes from Melbourne.
History
Geelong's earliest pastoral squatters Thomas and Peter Manifold occupied the area in 1836. Although the Manifolds soon moved further west, Manifold's vineyard remained for some years. Estates were subdivided in Manifold Heights during the 19th century, but it was the 1920s before much housing was built. In 1926, a primary school was opened and churches were opened in 1939.
