Location
Hamlyn Heights is an elevated residential area 3km to the north-west of Geelong city. It is situated on hills to the west of Corio Bay and backs on to the Moorabool River - which runs into the Barwon River. The Ballarat Road borders Hamlyn Heights in the north.

Description
A middle to upmarket residential suburb, Hamlyn Heights has a fine array of sporting facilities around the Vines Road community centre, not far from the 18-hole Geelong Golf Club. The suburb offers sweeping views across Corio Bay and in some parts, north to the You Yangs. Hamlyn Heights is central to everything - just 10 minutes drive from Geelong, 50 minutes from Melbourne and 30 minutes from the Surfcoast. The Midland Highway provides a direct link with some of Victoria's favourite inland destinations.

History
A fine historic homestead reminds visitors of the region's past. The first rooms of 'Glenpanyall', near Bell Post Hill, were erected in 1849 by David Coghill who was a member of John Hepburn's 1836 overland party to Melbourne. A fragment of the original building remains, with the replacement building dating from 1860. The post-war suburb of Hamlyn Heights did not grow until the 1950s and 1960s and was named after Sidney Hamlyn, a local resident, in the 1940s.
