The district has two small airports on each edge - the Geelong Airfield at Mt Duneed and eastwards, the Barwon Heads Airfield and Geelong Aero Club. Thompsons Creek runs through Connewarre down to the ocean at Breamlea.

Connewarre is a few minutes drive from the Barwon and Breamlea coasts and about 15 minutes drive fromGeelong.

History
The name, "Connewarre" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning black swan.

James Tait occupied the Connewarre Lakes pastoral station from 1849 to 1856. The small postal village of Connewarre, with some 500 people, grew around the station.

Anglican and Presbyterian schools were opened in 1858 and 1864, the latter at Connewarre East. A State school was built in 1877, which continued until 1993.
