Cargo Boxes at Night

North by Mark Stoner
This artwork installed at the Steampacket Quay at the end of Moorabool Street, consists of seven randomly placed fin or sail-like pieces placed across the site in a seemingly scattered formation. No two wings are aligned in the same direction. They vary in Size from 2.2 metres tall to 3.5 metres tall. The pieces are made of case cement panels that fit tightly together in an interlocking block formation. Several of the forms are predominantly one colour. By moving within and around the sculpture, the forms' profiles change quite dramatically.

Cargo Boxes by Maggie Fookes and Bill Perrin
"Cargo Boxes", the art installation designed by Maggie Fookes and Bill Perrin consists of a series of brass and glass "boxes", which contain sculptures recognising the early imports into the port of Geelong. The top of each box is inscribed with the name of the particular cargo vessel, the dates the vessel operated and the cargo it carried. These boxes are lit internally, creating a stunning night feature and double as casual seating. The Cargo Boxes are installed in the park at Customs House forecourt. This park is fully landscaped with a combination of grass, timber decking and paved areas, low level planting, mature evergreen shade trees and a water feature.

Pavement Splats by Maggie Fookes and Bill Perrin
Also by Maggie Fookes and Bill Perrin, "Paving Splats" are splattered around the central precinct as inlays to the pavement. Made of stainless steel, the splats add a touch of humour to break up the concrete areas.

Barcode FountainCustoms Plaza
Not strictly built as an art feature, but certainly providing artistic merit, the water feature in Customs Plaza incorporates a bar code from a truly original and surviving Geelong icon product, Noddy's Soft Drink. Noddy's kindly gave permission to reproduce one of their barcodes in the stainless steel base of the fountain. The fountain also incorporates underwater lighting, and built on many levels, provides a stepped effect going towards the Beach Road.
