- Use lights and reflective clothing when riding at night
- Ride no more than two abreast or in a single file in heavy traffic
- Look well ahead and scan the road or path for hazards
- Ride predictable in as straight a line as possible
- Signal your intentions by hand and establish eye contact with motorists
- Maintain your bicycle regularly
- Carry a repair kit, spare tube and water on a long ride
- Ride a metre out form the kerb or parked cars
- Let others behind know when slowing down or stopping
- Lock your bike to a secure object when unattended
- Be considerate of all road users' needs
