The City of Greater Geelong Retail Strategy was adopted by Council 9 December 1998 and reviewed and updated in 2001.

The Retail Strategy provides a policy basis for the assessment of proposals for retail development to promote the retail sector functions in a manner which focuses on the needs of the residents and visitors to the Region; is efficient and viable for the retail traders; creates local employment opportunities; and contributes to net community benefit, especially in the consideration of new or expanded retail facilities.
