As set out in the new Central Geelong Structure Plan the vision for Central Geelong is: 'Geelong is an international Waterfront city. It has world class facilities and is a highly desirable place to be'.

The Central Geelong Structure Plan (adopted 24 July 2007) will guide land use and development for Central Geelong for the next 20 years.

It is vital that we have updated plans in place to provide strategic direction for our City's continued development. The Structure Plan provides the groundwork for the major urban revitalisation of the City and sets out guidelines to ensure that future development is appropriate and consistent with our vision.

The Structure Plan provides a foundation for the next step, which is to develop a set of urban design guidelines that provide direction on height and built form.

The Central Geelong Structure Plan has been informed by public submissions and was developed in partnership with VicUrban, who funded the plan, and Council's Major Projects and Development Sustainability divisions.
