The Independent Panel report regarding the proposed Hometown development was released to the public on Tuesday 16 January 2007.
The Panel has not supported the Amendment and Planning Permit that is required to facilitate the proposed Hometown development. It recommends that the Planning Scheme Amendment (C98) should be abandoned and the accompanying permit should not be issued.
The Independent Panel report provides advice, however it is up to Council to consider if the Amendment is to proceed. The next step is for Council to formally consider the Panel's recommendations.
The Independent Panel was appointed by the Minister for Planning to consider the submissions to the proposed development, which includes 41,000 sq. metres Homemaker centre on the former Ford factory site in North Geelong.
The Panel conducted an 11 day hearing in Geelong and Melbourne during October and November 2006.
Council, the proponent and objecting submitters were heard at the hearing.
