Hendy Street Community Hall was destroyed by fire in June 2000. The hall provided a facility for a wide range of community users. The hall was located adjoining
Corio
Primary School
and a recreation reserve with soccer and tennis facilities.
Following the fire, community consultation and options analyses were carried out to identify both community needs as well as level of community facilities available to match that need.
The result is a proposal to build an integrated community facility including a new hall. The facility will provide for a wide range of community use and link the recreation areas for tennis and soccer to the hall. The facility can be used for community meetings, leisure, family support, social interaction, crafts interest groups as well as functions and recreation.
Detailed design, further consultation and costing of the project is proposed to be undertaken by June 2003.
