G21 Geelong Region Alliance

The G21 Region Alliance involves the Borough of Queenscliffe, City of Greater Geelong, Colac Otway Shire, Golden Plains Shire and Surf Coast Shire, working in collaboration with more than 100 local community and business agencies in the interest of the Geelong Region.

The Geelong Region has much to offer with fast growth, great natural resources, world-class infrastructure and an enviable lifestyle. The alliance aims to ensure that the region's social, economic and environmental wellbeing is protected and nurtured well into the future.

The G21 Alliance grew from an innovative concept to the delivery of the first Strategic Plan (2003) which identified 24 significant and diverse regional projects, 21 of which are now well underway or completed. The G21 Region Plan - a sustainable growth strategy with a 35-year outlook - will be completed by September 2006 and will lead and support more projects that will benefit the Geelong Region community.

G21's success is based on the innovative and co-operative work of the Geelong Region Local Governments, State Government departments and community and business agencies.

It demonstrates an impressive holistic approach to regional development that is a first in Australia and was recently recognized nationally with a Federal Government Award for Local Government "Innovation in Regional Development".
