Work is progressing on all three phases of the project, as outlined below.
Conservation Analysis
Draft reports have been completed and submitted to Council for review, covering archaeology, cultural heritage and a preliminary assessment of over 4,300 trees within Eastern Park and the Geelong Botanic Gardens. The Draft Conservation Analysis report - which is the major deliverable for this phase of the project - has been submitted to Council as a Draft in Progress.
Master Plan
Detailed analysis of the landscape, access &and movement, and leisure and recreation assets of the park have been completed and submitted to Council in draft form for review. A survey questionnaire has been prepared and can be accessed either in an on-line format on Council''s website, or in hard copy format at any one of Council''s Customer Service Centres. The survey will run until 1st May.
The ''listening post'' consultation event was undertaken on Saturday 31st March, in Eastern Park, Geelong Waterfront and Bay City Plaza. The consultant team spoke to many people on the day, and over 100 survey questionnaires were distributed.
The ''Issues and Visioning Workshop'' consultation event occurred on Monday 2nd April, with over 30 representatives of the project''s stakeholder groups meeting to discuss issues and opportunities, as well as starting to develop a 'vision'' for the future of Eastern Park and the Geelong Botanic Gardens.
In coming weeks the project team will develop key design principles and a master plan vision statement.
Management Plan Work is continuing on the development of management plans for traffic, wildlife, trees and various other aspects of the park and gardens.
