The Night Life forum was held at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 20 June to enable people aged 18 to 25 to express their feedback and comments on issues and opportunities relating to night life in Central Geelong.

The forum was one of many activities that Council has engaged in over recent months to address the issues around  safety in Central Geelong eg: Geelong Safety Committee, Central Geelong traders, Safety Forums hosted by Victoria Police, Nightlife Association meetings and meeting with Liquor Licensing.

The City of Greater Geelong welcomes the opportunity to consult and cooperate with all stakeholders in keeping our young people safe. These include the State Government, Victoria Police, licensees and their staff, patrons, parents, media and key agencies.

Councillors and City officers worked with two public relations students from Deakin University to develop a series of questions and discussion topics to ascertain the views of those present. While we agree that the participants may not have been a representative sample of young people across the municipality, we do believe that their responses are
indicative of the views of Geelong's young people and, as the Youth portfolio holder, I have agreed to advocate those views on their behalf.

The forum was fully subscribed by the morning of the forum, although there were some absentees on the night.
The forum was facilitated by an independent professional, John Stevens, and the collection of responses and production of the reports was undertaken by Robert Eke from EZICOMMS Pty Ltd, an International communications organisation whose clients include Commonwealth Bank and BHP.

As agreed at the forum, we are publishing the data unedited and in full. This data can be downloaded below:
