Vending Machines

Since 1 March 2006, cigarette vending machines can only lawfully be permitted in the following areas:

a)   Bar areas of licensed premises in line of sight of the bar, not more than 5 metres from the outer edge of the bar counter;
b)  Approved venues or in a casino in line of sight of a service counter;
c)  Bottle shops immediately next to the service counter.

Vending machines are no longer permitted in restaurants, cafés, bingo centers or staff amenity areas. Vending machines are considered in the same regards as any other tobacco retailer and are therefore required to comply with the legislation, including signage and advertising.
