Site 1 - Point Lonsdale

The areas that impact Point Lonsdale are predominantly saltwater environment with some freshwater influence.  The fringes of Swan Bay, near Burnt Point have significant saltmarshes that are affected by tidal activity and/or stormwater events and have potential to breed large numbers of mosquitoes that can migrate to the township.  The Murray Street drains are also significant sites, albeit they are easily accessible and treated.  The freshwater environment around Lonsdale Lakes along with the flat drainage system in that area present ideal breeding environment for freshwater mosquito species.  Some smaller marshes and depressions in Meneheeres Pit are also monitored and treated, particularly after stormwater events.  The City will also be liasing with the Defence Forces with respect to monitoring and treatment around Swan Island, which can also influence Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff.
