Site 10 - Leopold

The Reedy Lake periphery, Lake Connewarre and pondages near Mollers Lane are the main sources of mosquito breeding areas that will impact on the Leopold township.  These wetlands are subject to tidal and rainfall events, causing these areas to become ideal breeding sites for mosquitoes.  Due to the size and potential that these wetlands have, in terms of the impact of airborne mosquitoes around the town, prompt and regular monitoring and treatment of these sites occurs after each high tide and/or rainfall event.  Aerial treatment of these areas is of great benefit to the program as a vast area can be treated quite effectively.

This area is along the northern part of Lake Connewarre.  As the water rises up the embankments of the Lake it provides the ideal environment for existing mosquito eggs to hatch.  Therefore, after tidal or rainfall activity, the ground crew will monitor sites like this for signs of larvae.
