A Public Health Sub Plan exists within the framework of the Emergency Management Plan, which places responsibilities on Councils Environmental Health Officers to ensure community health protection in the following areas, although not limited to these;

  • Provision of emergency water supplies and maintenance of systems
  • Supervision of emergency mass feeding
  • Supervision of food handlers
  • Examination of donated foods
  • Examination of damaged food items
  • Provision of emergency sewerage disposal and maintenance systems
  • Supervision of emergency refuse disposal
  • Control and supervision of infectious diseases outbreaks
  • Investigation of food poisoning outbreaks
  • Control of vectors and vermin
  • Advice to the community of personal hygiene requirements
  • Advice on emergency housing and shelter
  • Advice on the siting and layout of emergency campsites
  • Terminal disinfection of homes, clothing and bedding to eliminate the spread of disease
  • Advice on disposal of toxic and hazardous materials
  • The establishment of burial sites for dead animals and stock.
