Currently there are minimal legislative requirements for the removal of domestic (non-commercial) asbestos. Removal of asbestos building products can increase levels of pollution in the environment as well as be potentially harmful to those doing the removal.
Old asbestos cement sheeting contains 10-15% of asbestos fibres in a cement matrix. Damaging AC sheeting, especially by cutting, drilling or abrading releases fibres and creates a risk to those working with the material. It is recommended that an approved removalist be engaged for this type of work.
